You can smooth a motion so that it starts out slow, speeds up, then slows down.
To set the motion eases using the inspector

Select one or more motion paths (see Selecting motion paths).

Enable or disable the eases using the and check boxes in the inspector.

Enter times for the eases in the and fields in the inspector.
To set the motion eases using the timeline

In the timeline, drag the ease points (up and down triangles) to the desired times.
Good durations to use for the ease durations are 20% of the total duration of the motion or, alternatively, one to three seconds.
